Perched at the head of the Box Valley, this contemporary three-story rear extension by Nash Partnership successfully tames a steep, sloping site to offer commanding countryside views.

Owing to the extension's compact footprint, the cottage renovation required two new staircases positioned right at the heart of the open-plan layout. The brief was strict: the design had to complement the rural vistas, allow daylight to flood through the floor plan, and establish a unified design language between the two independent units.

Working to a demanding schedule, we designed, supplied, and installed both staircases simultaneously. Using a refined material palette of solid European oak, brass, and painted timber, the resulting structures provide a seamless transition between levels without ever compromising the sense of space or light.
