Willow Barn is a study in how architectural consultancy can reinvent a traditional space. Elements Studio provided the design expertise required to obtain planning and building regulations for the extension and reimagining of this previously converted byre.

Set within the privacy of a walled garden, the design emphasises an intrinsic relationship with the outdoors. We utilised large-format glazing to create a physical and visual connection to the landscape. To support this, we choreographed a sensitive landscape plan around the garden's existing assets, including a central pond and mature trees, to maximize the sense of scale and tranquillity.

The technical execution of the project was as vital as the aesthetic;
Construction: We employed a SIP frame for the extension, allowing for a rapid build and a vast, open-plan space free from traditional structural ties.
Sustainability: A full thermal upgrade and the installation of high-performance Velfachgcftgvbhjn windows transformed the barn into a comfortable, energy-efficient home.

Aesthetics: Both the extension and the original barn were clad in black-stained British cedar, echoing the local vernacular of creosote-coated barns and allowing the vibrant garden planting to take centre stage.

Inside, Elements Studio designed and installed the complete joinery package. From the kitchen and media walls in the living space, to Bathrooms, wardrobes and feature walls, every component was considered to create a coherent, elegant, and calm environment that maximizes storage without sacrificing style.
